!!AMAZING RESULTS AT US MASTERS!!

2009 marked the 50th anniversary of the US Masters One of the hardest contests in the waterski scene to gain an invitation into, held at the prestigious Callaway Gardens, Georgia. With select criteria to meet only those at the top of their game are considered, meaning for the athletes to come out with a victory they are allowed no slip-ups.

This year had some of the worst weather imaginable for such a contest with high winds and heavy rain adding an extra challenge to the contestants. As miserable as it was nobody was going to let the weather get the better of him or her. For those lucky few the rain lightened up in patches letting the wind dye down, for the unfortunate the rain started back up just as they left the dock.

We are very proud to announce the big showing of Wing team members at this years Masters with tournament skiers Karina Knowlan in slalom and Mandy Nightingale in trick, also wakeboarders Jarrod Askew in juniors and Amber Wing in pro women.

Earning herself a glamorous and very much envied Masters ring for winning her first ever Masters title Karina competed strong all weekend to take out the women’s slalom with 3 @ 38 (11.25m) ahead of American Jill Knutson and Canadian

Whitney McClintock who managed 2@38 and 1.5@38   respectfully.

Amber Wing took 3rd in women’s wakeboard starting off a little shaking but pulling herself together getting a whirly down 3rd trick backing it up with a smooth and solid ts 540 in her usual fashion. Tour veteran Dallas Friday took 2nd position showing the field that she is riding stronger than ever though just did not lay down enough to take out Nicola Butler who is the current Queen of Wake champion.

Junior Masters in its 17th year saw American Steele Lafferty take the honours in the jnr men’s wakeboard muscling in a ts 720 with Mitch Langfield (Aus) getting down a backside 540 to win him best trick. Jarrod Askew, who came out on top in his qualifying round managed to hold himself together in the less than desirable conditions for the final, rounding out the jnr men’s podium in a respectful 3rd position.

Congratulations to our team members these results show some great promise for the rest of the competitive season!

Surf News March 09

Brad Whitaker travelled to the Gold Coast in March for the #1 WCT surfing competitions for 2009. Brad was working again on the ASP Chaplaincy project endorsed for 2009 and worked hard to set up for this year’s tour.

Sharks boardriders #1 point score was held at the alley in small but fun waves. Wing’s Cameron Johnston (President of Sharks boardriders) held a very professional and well round surfing competition for all involved. Luke the wall.JPGMadden, Jordan Windenstrom and Joe Wallace all competed in the boardriders. Newest to the Wing team - Joe Wallace received the best result, a 4th in the U16 division. Joe is only 12 years of age so we will be sure to see him taking this division out soon.

Luke, Jordan and Joe also competed in Christian surfers (boardrider club) throughout March. All achieved fantastic results. Luke won the opens division with Jordan placing behind in second. Joe also got to the final of the beginners 2 receiving 2nd place. Well done team!!!
Throughout March the Wing surf team has been included in many publications through the local photographers. Barefoot News March 09

Throughout March 2009 Wing Wetsuit’s Gizie Halasz has been invited to return to St George for another Learn to Barefoot Clinic after a very successful clinic last September.

With such a tight summer schedule for all, the three day clinic was finally locked in for 16-18 March 2009 on the weir at St George. Louise Ferguson from Roma Qld had organised it all with her main motivation being that her four children would learn to barefoot with minimal falls and good technique. A number of other families joined in with their kids and at final count there were nine kids and four parents eager to learn. The youngest was 5 and eldest 15 years (no ages for the parents to be mentioned). The weather was good to us and by the afternoon of day three everyone had completely spent their energy levels.

Gizie explained, "The kids had improved so much since I last saw them in September". "I really enjoyed the clinic and would like to thank the Ferguson's for inviting me back and making me feel so welcome". Well Done Gizie!!!!!.

Wakeboarding News March 09

March 17-21st of March Marked the end of the Australian contests season with the Nationals being held on the Murray River at Renmark, S.A. The Nationals is one of the biggest events of the season and is what the junior riders all over the country train hard for all year.

The 2009 nationals didn’t disappoint, the standard of riding better than ever with riders fighting to be selected for the Australian Team competing in the IWSF World Titles held in Korea later this year. Water conditions tested the competitors with rollers being an issue; those who rode smart and stayed strong throughout their pass proved they deserved to advance from the early round to the finals.
