!!AMAZING
RESULTS AT US MASTERS!!
2009 marked the 50th
anniversary of the US Masters One of the hardest contests in the
waterski scene to gain an invitation into, held at the prestigious
Callaway Gardens, Georgia. With select criteria to meet only those
at the top of their game are considered, meaning for the athletes
to come out with a victory they are allowed no slip-ups.
This year had some of the worst
weather imaginable for such a contest with high winds and heavy
rain adding an extra challenge to the contestants. As miserable as
it was nobody was going to let the weather get the better of him or
her. For those lucky few the rain lightened up in patches letting
the wind dye down, for the unfortunate the rain started back up
just as they left the dock.
We are very proud to announce the
big showing of Wing team members at this years Masters with
tournament skiers Karina Knowlan in slalom and Mandy Nightingale in
trick, also wakeboarders Jarrod Askew in juniors and Amber Wing in
pro women.
Earning herself a glamorous and
very much envied Masters ring for winning her first ever Masters
title Karina competed strong all weekend to take out the women’s
slalom with 3 @ 38 (11.25m) ahead of American Jill Knutson and
Canadian
Whitney McClintock who
managed 2@38 and 1.5@38
respectfully.
Amber Wing took 3rd in
women’s wakeboard starting off a little shaking but pulling herself
together getting a whirly down 3rd trick backing it up
with a smooth and solid ts 540 in her usual fashion. Tour veteran
Dallas Friday took 2nd position showing the field that
she is riding stronger than ever though just did not lay down
enough to take out Nicola Butler who is the current Queen of Wake
champion.
Junior Masters in its
17th year saw American Steele Lafferty take the honours
in the jnr men’s wakeboard muscling in a ts 720 with Mitch
Langfield (Aus) getting down a backside 540 to win him best trick.
Jarrod Askew, who came out on top in his qualifying round managed
to hold himself together in the less than desirable conditions for
the final, rounding out the jnr men’s podium in a respectful
3rd position.
Congratulations to our team
members these results show some great promise for the rest of the
competitive season!
